Elevate Your Space: DIY Track Shelving for Under $250

Transform Your Space with Track Shelving

For many of us, our home is more than just a physical space – it’s a reflection of our personality, creativity, and style. As an interior stylist, I’ve always believed that designing and decorating a home is an empowering experience that allows us to express ourselves and showcase our unique taste.

The Perfect Storage Solution

That’s why I’m excited to share with you a DIY project that checks all the right boxes: track shelving. Not only is it a great storage solution, but it’s also attractive, customizable, and budget-friendly. Plus, it adds a touch of high design to any room.

A Showcase for Your Treasures

As a collector of vintage items, I was drawn to track shelving because it allows me to display my beloved treasures alongside my workday essentials. And as a chronic rearranger, I love that I can style different looks and shelf layouts to keep my space feeling fresh and exciting.

The Benefits of Track Shelving

But what really sets track shelving apart is its ability to make any room feel more spacious. By drawing the eye upward, it creates a sense of openness and airiness, even in rooms with lower ceilings.

A DIY Project That’s Easy on the Wallet

The best part? This DIY project won’t break the bank. With a total cost of around $250, you can create a stunning and functional piece of furniture that adds value to your home.

Supplies Needed

  • Rust-oleum metal primer
  • Rust-oleum gold spray paint
  • Twin tracks (shorter or taller depending on your space)
  • Twin track brackets (2 per shelf)
  • Laminate or wood shelves (as long as needed and as deep as the brackets)
  • 2.5-inch wood screws
  • 1.5-inch wood screws
  • Stud finder
  • Power drill (check your local hardware store or Home Depot to see if they rent tools)
  • Drill bits
  • Level
  • Stepladder
  • Painter’s tape

Installation Instructions

Prep Tracks and Mark the Studs

Spray-paint your tracks gold for a touch of glamour, and let them set for 10 minutes. Then, use your stud finder to mark the studs in the wall with painter’s tape.

Place and Secure Your Tracks to the Wall

Line up the first track against the stud, use your level to ensure it’s straight, and mark the wall where the screws need to go. Secure each track to the wall with 2.5-inch wood screws.

Place Your Brackets

Snap your brackets into the slots in the tracks, and secure your wood shelves onto the brackets using 1.5-inch wood screws.

Decorate Your Shelves!

This is the fun part – get creative with your shelf styling and decorate your space with your unique flair. Just remember to keep the weight of your items in mind, and place heavier objects directly over the brackets for extra support.

By following these simple steps, you can create a stunning piece of track shelving that adds joy and functionality to your home. Happy decorating!
