The Unlikely Interloper: A Hot Dog on the Ice
Figure skating competitions often end with a flourish, as roses are tossed onto the rink in celebration. But a recent hockey game between the Bruins and Devils took an unexpected turn when a hot dog suddenly appeared on the ice.
Tied and Tense
The game was neck and neck, with the score tied 1-1 after regulation and a five-minute 4-on-4 overtime period. The tension was palpable as the game came down to a tie-settling shootout. Bruins player Tyler Seguin, just 21 years old, stepped up to take the crucial shot.
A Rogue Frankfurter
Just as Seguin approached the crease, ready to unleash the puck, a hot dog came flying out of nowhere. It’s unclear whether the errant snack actually crossed Seguin’s line of vision, but the referees were quick to react. They disallowed the initial shot, which had found its way into the goal, and ordered Seguin to take another attempt.
A Second Chance
Undeterred, Seguin sank the puck once more, this time without the distraction of the flying frankfurter. While the incident has become a humorous anecdote, it’s impossible to shake the feeling that the hot dog may have cost Seguin the winning shot. And what a waste of overpriced arena food!
