Finding Harmony in Yoga: My Journey to Balance

Finding Balance in My Yoga Journey

After a rough start, I’m thrilled to report that I’ve finally found my rhythm. A week ago, I was struggling to balance more demanding classes with restorative ones, leaving my body feeling drained. But after a few days of gentle practice, I’m back on track and enjoying the benefits of yoga.

A Refreshing Start to the Week

Saturday’s Back Care class at Pure Yoga’s Eastside location was just what I needed. Instructor Jon Witt focused on releasing tension in the back, and we explored unique exercises that soothed my stressed-out back and shoulders.

A Home Practice Detour

On Sunday, I broke my own rule and skipped a studio class to practice at home with my roommate and cousin, Liz. We followed a 30-minute Jivamukti class on Yoga Download, but I couldn’t help feeling like I missed out on the energy of a live class.

Getting Back on Track

Monday’s Fundamentals I class at Sonic Yoga in Hell’s Kitchen was a great reminder of the basics. Instructor Keith created a supportive environment where everyone could learn at their own pace. It was refreshing to focus on proper alignment without feeling intimidated by more advanced students.

A Disappointing Detour

Tuesday’s Restorative Yoga class at the 13th Street New York Health and Racquet Club didn’t quite live up to its name. The class was more like a random mix of yoga postures with light weight work – not what I was expecting. I’m still on the hunt for a restorative class that resonates with me.

A Peaceful Oasis

Wednesday’s class at Yoga Union on 28th Street was a game-changer. With only four students, instructor Brette Popper provided personalized attention and guided us through a series of poses using the studio’s unique rope wall. The highlight was a down dog using the ropes, which allowed me to fully release tension in my back. I’ll definitely be back for more.

A Challenging Prana Flow Class

Thursday’s Prana Flow class at Sonic Yoga was a rigorous workout that pushed me out of my comfort zone. The loud breathing and sighing exercises were unfamiliar, but I appreciated the physical challenge. While it wasn’t my favorite class, I’m willing to give it another try.

The Road Ahead

As I wrap up this week, I’m facing a new challenge: fitting in yoga while working and traveling. I’m hoping to squeeze in a few minutes of sun salutations throughout the day. Stay tuned for updates on Twitter, and I’ll post my schedule for next week on our Tumblr soon.
