39 Days of Holiday Running: Triumph, Lessons, and a New Year’s Resolve

The Ultimate Holiday Running Challenge: 39 Days of Sweat and Triumph

Time Management Mastery

On particularly busy days, finding time for even a single mile was a struggle. However, by scheduling my daily run as a non-negotiable appointment, I made it happen. I also discovered the benefits of combining my run with errands and commuting, turning what could have been tedious tasks into efficient and exhilarating experiences.

Embracing the Treadmill

While I initially loathed the treadmill, I’ve come to respect its convenience and versatility. On days when braving the cold wasn’t feasible, I turned to the treadmill, donning shorts and a tank top for a comfortable, low-maintenance workout.

Prioritizing Health and Fatigue-Free Running

To maintain my health and energy levels, I focused on short, easy runs, saving longer distances for more opportune moments. Although I didn’t log as many long runs as I’d have liked, I still managed to squeeze in a few notable ones, including a memorable 5-mile outing along the waterfront with my training partner, Jay.

The Power of Social Support

Running with friends not only boosted my motivation but also provided opportunities for meaningful connections. I’m grateful to my supportive network, including Maura, Austyn, Caroline, Drew, Aubrey, Caitlin, Mike, Jay, and others, who joined me on various runs throughout the challenge.

Celebrating Milestones and Looking Ahead

On the final day of the streak, my friend Sam and I pushed through post-party exhaustion to complete a slow, yet satisfying 2-mile loop. With a total of approximately 112.5 miles logged, I averaged around three miles per day since Thanksgiving. As I look to the future, I’m excited to tackle new running challenges, including a half marathon in March and perhaps even a full marathon later this year.

Total Distance: 112.5 miles

Average Daily Distance: 3 miles

Longest Run: 5 miles
