Fitness on a Shoestring: My Month-Long Experiment
As we wrap up the month, I’m thrilled to share my takeaways from working out on a budget. Before diving into the nitty-gritty, let’s recap my week.
Slam Dunk Savings
I kicked off the week by channeling my inner basketball star (sorry, Cleveland fans!). Thanks to Jordan’s membership, our team got to enjoy a “Bring Two Guests” deal at the Sports Center at Chelsea Piers. Six intense games of three-on-three left me drenched in sweat, proving that basketball can be an incredible workout.
Gym Hopping on a Dime
On Tuesday, I took advantage of my free week-long trial at Bally Total Fitness, just a few blocks from our HQ. With a convenient location, varied machines, and classes galore, I was able to squeeze in a great workout without breaking the bank. Remember, most gyms offer free trials – so be sure to browse their website before committing!
Yoga on a Shoestring
Wednesday found me back on the yoga mat at Hosh Yoga, where I donated a mere $5 to warrior my way to savasana. It was during this class that I realized my passion for yoga – a discovery I might not have made if I hadn’t tried so many affordable classes. Throughout the month, I’ve seen significant improvement, and I’m hooked!
Finding My Flow
I returned to Hosh on Thursday for another 70 minutes of vinyasa bliss, again for just $5. I’ve come to love this style, as it gets my heart rate up and allows me to stretch out while working out. Plus, who can resist a good meditation session?
Sweating at Home
For my final day of Fitness on a Budget, I treated myself to a yoga session at home – no teacher, podcast, or online video needed. By using what I learned from this month’s classes, I can now practice yoga for free!
The Bottom Line
This week’s total? A mere $10! Through this challenge, I’ve realized that the real problem isn’t the cost of working out, but rather the excuses we make. Yes, exercise can be pricey, but by finding what activities are worth our hard-earned cash, we can make fitness affordable.
