Urban Escape: Finding Serenity on Central Park Lake
Taking the Helm
We traded in our sweater vests for a tranquil afternoon on Central Park Lake, eager to flex our muscles, outpace the tourists, and bask in the beauty of the urban jungle. We awkwardly climbed into a pair of vintage rowboats, and our seasoned captains took charge.
The ladies relaxed, giggled, and swooned to the sweet sounds of an authentic Italian serenade. After gliding past the iconic Bow Bridge and visiting a family of sun-kissed turtles, it was time for the women to take the reins.
Finding Rhythm
At first, some of us struggled to find our rhythm (who knew rowing could be so counterintuitive?). But with a few switches and gentle reminders to avoid sudden movements, we finally got the hang of it.
We took in the breathtaking scenery: an oil painter and his muse, a successful first date, and the stunning Dakota building and San Remo towers in the distance.
Slowing Down in the City
Row boating may not be the most intense workout, but it’s an ideal way to unwind in the city. With the gentle lapping of the water against the shore, we found ourselves slowing down and savoring the moment.
If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle, Central Park’s Loeb Boathouse is open to the public from April to November, weather permitting.
Capturing the Moment
Photographer Cris Magliozzi perfectly captured the essence of our serene afternoon on the lake. As we drifted along, we realized that sometimes, all it takes is a gentle push and a willingness to slow down to find peace in the midst of the urban jungle.
