Wedding Season: Finding the Perfect Outfit for Multiple Occasions
As we dive into the midst of wedding season, I’ve already checked off the one wedding I was attending this year. Last year, I had the pleasure of attending three beautiful weddings, and I managed to wear only two dresses between them. My trusty, chic black dress has been a game-changer – it’s made of sweater-like material, has silk in the front, and is both comfortable and fancy enough for any wedding.
Striking the Right Balance
For me, finding the perfect wedding attire is all about finding a balance between comfort, style, and versatility. You want to look great, feel confident, and be able to wear the outfit multiple times. I asked 12 women about their experiences with re-wearing wedding outfits, and here’s what they had to say:
Black Tie Affairs
Carina opted for a black dress with a shrug cover-up, which she can wear to any formal event. She initially splurged on shoes and a necklace but returned them to stay within her budget of $200.
Bridesmaid Bonanza
Jazmine, a bridesmaid, purchased a blush-colored J.Crew sundress that she’s reused multiple times. She also invested in Spanx, shoes, and Kate Spade jewelry, which she’s worn frequently.
Summer Chic
Andromahi fell in love with a classic, long blue dress that’s become her go-to for summer weddings and outdoor events. She feels like Jane Birkin in it, and who wouldn’t want that?
Dress for Less
Mary returned a pricey dress in favor of an $18 backless floral sundress from a mall store. She had it altered for under $10 and has worn it numerous times since. It’s now her favorite dress!
Separates are the Way to Go
Chelsea swears by separates for wedding attire. She finds that they’re more affordable, offer greater versatility, and allow her to stand out without upstaging the bride.
Timeless Elegance
Samantha invested in a simple black dress for a New Year’s Eve party, which has become her go-to for weddings and other formal events. She’s dressed it up and down and receives compliments every time.
Nude Pumps for the Win
Monica, a seasoned bridesmaid, invested in a pair of Stuart Weitzman nude pumps that have been worn with almost every bridesmaid dress. They’re perfect for weddings and other events throughout the year.
Easter Sunday Best
Elena bought a lightweight green pastel dress for a summer wedding, thinking she’d never wear it again. However, it turned out to be perfect for Easter church service and can be dressed up or down easily.
Dark, Neutral, and Versatile
Meredith purchased a dark blue dress made of flowy material for a March wedding and has worn it multiple times since. The neutral color makes it perfect for any season, and she dresses it up or down with accessories.
Sorority Sisters
Marcela, a sorority alumna, reuses her formal dresses from college, which have held up well over time. She realizes now that she shouldn’t have spent so much money on them, but they’ve been worth it.
Bridesmaid Blues
Laura has mostly been a bridesmaid, which means she hasn’t had the chance to re-wear those dresses. However, she did have one dress that she could wear again after her mom altered it, and she occasionally wears it to work with a blazer.
The Perfect Purse
Kalee invested in a charcoal Michael Kors bag to complete her outfit for a wedding. She’s used it countless times since, not just for weddings but also for work events, funerals, and church gatherings. It was a splurge worth making.
