Revamping a Dark Office Space with a DIY Window Garden
A Year of Growth
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since we moved into our office space. From the moment we first saw it, we knew it had potential. With a little TLC and some fresh paint, we’ve transformed the space into something truly special. One of my favorite additions is our very own window garden, which has brought new life to the once-dark corner of the office.
The Perfect Nook
The windowsill by my desk is the ideal spot for housing plants and office essentials. With plenty of sunlight streaming in during the day, it’s the perfect place to create a mini oasis. However, the concrete alleyway outside made the space feel cold and dark, so we decided to take matters into our own hands.
Bringinging in the Green
We researched ways to liven up the space and sought inspiration for a chic, easy, and budget-friendly solution. The answer was clear: a DIY window garden. Not only does it brighten up the space, but it also adds a touch of warmth and coziness to our office.
The Four Key Elements
To create our potted-window garden, we focused on four essential elements: plants, pots, paint, and knick-knacks.
Choosing the Right Plants
Selecting the right plants is crucial for a beautiful and successful window garden. We opted for a mix of heartier plants, avoiding delicate herbs that can be finicky to care for. Our chosen plants are not only visually appealing but also functional – like our edible basil, which adds a fragrant touch to our office bar cart.
Pots with a Twist
We wanted our pots to be stylish, elegant, and movable. We customized our containers to provide visual interest and depth, choosing a mix of smaller and larger pots. We also considered factors like drainage, sunlight, and size to ensure our plants thrive.
Adding a Pop of Color
Painting the pots was the fun part! We opted for a dark charcoal gray color, which provides a beautiful contrast to the bright white windowsill. To add some extra flair, we used tape to create stripes of different widths and painted them with a gold metallic paint. The result is a sophisticated and stylish look that adds warmth to the space.
The Final Touches
To complete our window garden, we added some personal touches. A bright golden geometric orb complements the gold stripes, while a candle and fancy matches create a luxurious ambiance. We also added a few books and notebooks to keep the space functional and organized. The result is a beautiful, balanced, and useful nook that’s transformed our office space.
A Budget-Friendly Transformation
The best part? Our entire window garden project cost only $50. With a little planning and creativity, you can transform any dark or barren space into a bright, beautiful oasis.
