The High Cost of Pursuing Our Passions
It’s a harsh reality: living life to the fullest can be expensive. Beyond the essentials, we have hobbies, passions, and interests that make us unique and bring us joy. However, these extras can be draining, both emotionally and financially.
Lately, I’ve found myself struggling to muster the energy and resources to pursue new activities. A series of personal setbacks has left me feeling exhausted, and the thought of trying something new feels overwhelming. Even self-care, which I believe in, can be challenging when it means saying no to social invitations or taking extra naps.
The problem is, without hobbies and interests, I feel unfulfilled. Recently, I joined online dating, and the question “What do you like to do?” has become a source of anxiety. As a writer, I should be able to articulate my thoughts, but instead, I find myself agreeing with my dates’ interests just to avoid talking about my own lack of passions.
The truth is, I need to find activities that bring me joy without breaking the bank or draining my energy. This led me to search for hobbies that fit within my limited budget.
Discovering Affordable Hobbies
I turned to Google, searching for “really fun cheap or free hobbies.” After some digging, I compiled a list of activities to try, including cooking, learning calligraphy, and watching educational documentaries from my local library. These hobbies require minimal energy output and cost very little to enjoy.
To keep myself in check, I’ve set a strict “hobby budget” of $50-$100 for the summer. This will cover small expenses like sketch paper, ingredients, and library fees.
The Importance of Having Hobbies
It’s essential to have activities that bring us joy, regardless of our financial situation. While it’s easy to blame lack of money for not pursuing our passions, the truth is, there are ways to explore new activities without breaking the bank. We just need to look in the right places.
This summer, I’m committed to finding affordable hobbies that bring me fulfillment. By doing so, I hope to rediscover my passions and find joy in the simple things.
