Rethinking Priorities: From Hustle to Health
As I reflect on the past year, I’m reminded of the importance of balance in achieving my goals. In 2017, my focus was on growing my blog, increasing my income through freelancing, and buying a house. These priorities consumed my life, and I pushed myself to the limit. While I accomplished what I set out to do, I paid the price – exhaustion, burnout, and neglect of my physical health.
The High Cost of Hustle
Behind the scenes of my successful blog and freelance career, I was working non-stop, managing multiple clients, and juggling deadlines. I was so focused on my goals that I ignored my own well-being. My typical day consisted of waking up early, working a full-time job, and then putting in another four hours of work in the evening. I was running on empty, and it took a toll on my mental and physical health.
A Wake-Up Call
When I finally took a break and stopped working for two weeks, I realized how unsustainable my lifestyle was. I was stressed, tired, and burnt out. It was a wake-up call that forced me to reassess my priorities and make changes.
Finding Balance
In the fall, I started a new job and became more selective about the projects I took on. I prioritized my health and made time for rest and relaxation. I learned to say no to projects that didn’t align with my goals and values. As a result, I had the energy and bandwidth to focus on my blog and connect with my readers.
Health Takes Center Stage
This year, my priority is my health. I’ve recognized that neglecting my physical well-being has consequences for my overall quality of life and finances. I’ve made intentional choices to invest in my health, including taking a nutrition course, buying new workout gear, and setting aside time for exercise. These investments may seem small, but they’re crucial to my long-term well-being.
Frugal Health Habits
While investing in my health, I’m still mindful of my finances. I’ve found ways to be frugal and make healthy choices without breaking the bank. For example, I’ve increased my vegetable intake and implemented a modified Dry January, which has had a positive impact on my spending.
A New Focus
If 2017 was the year of hustle, 2018 is the year of health. I’m excited to see how this new focus will impact my life and finances. I’ll continue to share my journey and insights with my readers, and I hope to inspire others to prioritize their health and well-being.
