A Bold Burger for the Fearless
The Guinness Connection
In the early 20th century, a certain iconic beer was touted as a health tonic, with hospitals in England even prescribing it to patients. While that’s no longer the case, the beer’s unique flavor profile has remained a beloved staple. Now, you can experience that same depth of flavor in a juicy burger.
The Perfect Patty
To create these bold burgers, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef round
- 1/4 cup dark beer (such as a stout or porter)
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup minced scallions (white and green parts)
Assembling the Masterpiece
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, gently combine the beef, beer, mustard, ginger, garlic, salt, and pepper. Be careful not to overmix. Form the mixture into 4 patties, each approximately 3/4 inch thick.
Searing Perfection
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burgers to your desired level of doneness, about 3 to 5 minutes per side for medium. Remove the burgers from the skillet and set them aside.
Finishing Touches
Add the scallions to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until they’re just wilted, about 1 to 2 minutes. This will create a delicious pan sauce to top your burger.
Serve and Savor
Assemble your burgers on toasted sesame seed buns and top them with a spoonful of the pan sauce. With a total prep time of just 15 minutes, you can indulge in this bold burger whenever the craving strikes.
