Prioritizing Skincare on a Budget
As the current health crisis continues to impact our lives, it’s natural to reassess our spending habits and prioritize what’s truly essential. For many of us, skincare is a luxury that may seem indulgent, especially when financial uncertainty looms. However, taking care of our skin doesn’t have to break the bank.
Back to Basics
When my usual skincare products ran out, I took the opportunity to reevaluate my routine and identify the most essential items. Through research and reflection, I created a list of must-haves that benefit my skin without draining my wallet.
Effective Skincare on a Shoestring
One of the most important lessons I learned is that effective skincare doesn’t have to cost a fortune. In fact, many of the products I’ve prioritized can be found at local drugstores, making them easy to restock.
Simple, yet Effective Products
Here are the products I’ve prioritized in my skincare routine:
A Gentle Facial Cleanser
I opted for CeraVe’s Hydrating Facial Cleanser ($10.99/12oz.), a gentle and moisturizing cleanser that plays well with my oily and sensitive skin. The large bottles last months, and I use one pump twice a day.
Toner: An Extra Layer of Cleansing
Dickinson’s Witch Hazel ($4.69/16oz) has been a staple in my routine for years, offering an additional layer of cleansing to remove any dirt left behind by my cleanser. I’ve recently added E.L.F.’s SuperTone toner ($8/5.1oz) to my nighttime routine, which provides gentle exfoliation with alpha hydroxy acid.
Basic Eye Cream
As I’ve entered my late 20s, I’ve realized the importance of incorporating an eye cream into my routine. Burt’s Bees Sensitive Eye Cream ($9.99) is a great, affordable option that provides gentle moisturization and helps prevent fine lines.
Versatile Moisturizer
CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion ($9.99/8oz) is a lightweight, sensitive skin-friendly moisturizer that works well for my oily skin. It’s a great multi-purpose moisturizer that I use after my eye cream and before bed.
Sunscreen: A Must-Have
Alba Botanica’s Hawaiian Sunscreen SPF 45 ($6) is a reef-friendly sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast on my skin. I apply it after my moisturizer, about 15 minutes before leaving for work.
Prioritizing Self-Care
While financial turmoil can be stressful, prioritizing self-care is crucial. A skincare routine provides a sense of normalcy and consistency, even when the world feels out of control. By focusing on the basics and using affordable, effective products, I’ve been able to maintain my skincare routine without breaking the bank.
