Rethinking Success: A Journey of Self-Discovery
A Career Reckoning
In the span of just a few months, my entire understanding of success was turned upside down. The COVID-19 pandemic swept across the globe, leaving devastation and uncertainty in its wake. The global economy plummeted, and millions of people lost their jobs. I was one of them.
Reevaluating My Goals
But even before the pandemic, I had been questioning my career trajectory. Was I truly happy with my choices? As a media professional with over seven years of experience, I had achieved many of my goals, but I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was missing. The industry was rapidly changing, and I was struggling to find my place in it.
From Editor to Entrepreneur
I had always dreamed of becoming an editor, running a website, and working for a prestigious magazine. But as I approached my 30th birthday, I realized that these goals no longer aligned with my values. I wanted more than just a fancy title and a hefty paycheck. I wanted to make a meaningful impact, to learn and grow, and to surround myself with like-minded individuals who shared my passion for innovation.
A New Definition of Success
As I navigated the uncertain landscape of freelance work, I began to redefine what success meant to me. It was no longer about the job title, the salary, or the location. It was about the freedom to pursue my passions, to take risks, and to continuously challenge myself. I wanted to prioritize learning, collaboration, and personal growth over material possessions and external validation.
Embracing the Unknown
It’s scary to let go of our carefully crafted plans and embrace the unknown. But sometimes, it’s necessary to shake things up and explore new possibilities. As I look to the future, I’m excited to see where this journey takes me. I’m not sure what the next chapter holds, but I’m ready to take the leap and find out.
Here’s to 30
As I celebrate this milestone birthday, I’m reminded that success is a fluid concept, one that evolves and changes as we grow and learn. It’s okay to reassess our goals and priorities, to pivot and adjust our course. In fact, it’s essential. So, here’s to 30, and to the many adventures that lie ahead.
