Taking Control of My Health: A Journey to Wellness
As someone who has struggled with various health issues throughout my life, I’ve learned that taking care of my well-being is essential to living a happy and fulfilling life. For years, I searched for a magic solution to fix all my health problems, but I eventually realized that I needed to take matters into my own hands.
Breaking Free from Poor Health
Growing up, I frequently visited hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies, dealing with a range of ailments and illnesses. I struggled with eating disorders, dermatitis, eczema, chronic pain, anxiety, and depression. I thought there was something fundamentally wrong with me, and I became stuck in a negative cycle of poor health.
A Turning Point
One day, I realized that I needed to make a serious change in my life. I took a step back, looked at my health from a holistic perspective, and started making conscious choices to prioritize my well-being. It’s been three years since I started this journey, and I’m proud to say that I’m the healthiest and happiest I’ve ever been.
Budgeting for Health
To maintain my healthy lifestyle, I budget for five essential items:
1. A Health Journal
I use a wellness planner to set SMART health goals, track my progress, and stay focused on my daily habits. This tool has been instrumental in helping me swap toxic habits for healthier ones.
2. Wellness Apps
I leverage technology to manage my mental health through apps like Headspace and Moodnotes. These tools provide me with accessible resources and support whenever I need it.
3. Gym Membership
As someone living with chronic pain, exercise is crucial to my well-being. I’ve found a gym that offers flexibility and variety, allowing me to adapt my workout routine to my changing body.
4. Organic, Whole, Plant-Based Foods
Changing my diet has been a game-changer for my health. I focus on consuming organic, whole, plant-based foods, which has improved my physical and mental well-being significantly.
5. Therapy
I’m a strong advocate for therapy, which has helped me learn from past mistakes and create a better life for myself. I prioritize regular therapy sessions to maintain my mental health.
Investing in Myself
While there are days when I feel resentful about the limitations of my health, I know that prioritizing my well-being is the best investment I can make. It’s cheesy, but it’s true: investing in yourself, including your health, is the best investment you can make.
