Quarantine Reflections: Lessons Learned and Growth Achieved
As I reflect on the past few months, I’m reminded that personal growth doesn’t always come in the form of grand, Instagram-worthy achievements. Sometimes, it’s the small, incremental changes that add up to make a significant impact.
Embracing New Skills
During quarantine, I took the opportunity to learn how to use my Instant Pot, a gift I regifted to myself after my parents admitted they wouldn’t be using it. After a few frustrating attempts, I finally mastered the art of cooking with it. This newfound skill led me to explore other recipes, including Urvashi Pitre’s Butter Chicken, which has become a staple in my kitchen.
Rediscovering Old Passions
I also attempted to revive my love for drawing, but soon realized it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Despite the struggles, this experience taught me to be kinder to myself and not be too hard on my creative endeavors.
Exploring My Neighborhood
With more free time on my hands, I took the opportunity to get lost in my neighborhood with my puppy, exploring new streets and areas. This adventure not only provided exercise for my pup but also helped me become more familiar with my surroundings.
Rebuilding Confidence
After getting laid off, I had to relearn how to navigate job interviews. It wasn’t easy, but with each attempt, I gained confidence in selling my skills and packaging my experiences.
Practical Discoveries
Quarantine also taught me some practical lessons, such as the convenience of shelf-stable milk from Costco and the value of tracking my purchases to become more mindful of my spending habits.
Relationships and Personal Growth
One of the most significant lessons I learned was that even as an introvert, I still crave human connection. When I finally saw my family after months of isolation, I was overwhelmed with emotion. Additionally, I’m proud to say that my husband and I survived our month-long cohabitation without any major incidents.
Newfound Appreciation
I’ve also developed a new appreciation for Kindles, which have allowed me to access digital copies of books from my local library, making it easier to stay on top of my reading list.
Entrepreneurial Ventures
Lastly, I took the leap and formed my own consulting business, which has taught me valuable lessons about time management, invoicing, and strategizing. It’s been a challenging but rewarding experience that has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
In the end, quarantine may not have transformed me into a completely new person, but it has given me the opportunity to learn, grow, and appreciate the small things in life.
