Rental Kitchen Revamp: $700 Budget Makeover

Transforming a Kitchen on a Budget: A Rental Unit Revamp

When it comes to rental units, it’s easy to feel limited by the existing design. However, with a little creativity and resourcefulness, it’s possible to transform a space into a warm and inviting oasis. Our CEO, Chelsea Fagan, recently revamped her Morningside Heights apartment, and we’re excited to share the before and after photos of her stunning kitchen makeover.

From Sterile to Chic

Chelsea’s kitchen was originally a sterile, all-white space with fluorescent lighting, reminiscent of a Stanley Kubrick film set. She knew she had to make changes to create a space that felt like home. “As someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen, I wanted to create a space that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing,” she explains.

The Power of Paint

The first step in Chelsea’s kitchen transformation was painting the walls a deep, rich blue (Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy). This bold move added a sense of drama and sophistication to the space, while also providing a striking contrast to the existing white cabinets, floors, and countertops.

Lighting Up the Space

Next, Chelsea replaced the harsh fluorescent lighting with a stylish ceiling lamp, complete with a dimmer switch. This simple change made a huge impact, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for entertaining.

Maximizing Space

To make the most of the kitchen’s limited space, Chelsea installed a wall-mounted pot rack, which not only added functionality but also created a sense of intentionality and weight to the room. She also swapped out the existing handles and pulls for brass ones, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication.

The Final Touches

Chelsea completed the look by adding a large print in the adjacent hallway, creating a warm and welcoming space that sets the tone for the rest of the kitchen and dining area.

The Budget Breakdown

So, how much did this stunning kitchen makeover cost? According to Chelsea, the total came out to around $700, including materials and labor. Not bad for a transformation that’s made such a huge impact!

Tips and Tricks

Chelsea’s kitchen makeover is a testament to the power of simple, budget-friendly changes. Her advice to anyone looking to tackle their own DIY project? “Remember that even small changes can make a big difference, and don’t be afraid to invest in your space, even if you’re renting.”
