From Financial Anxiety to Entrepreneurial Freedom

Breaking Free from Financial Anxiety: My Journey to Building a Business

As a solo entrepreneur, I’ve learned that starting a business is a daunting task that requires immense time, effort, and financial resources. It’s a journey filled with uncertainty, stress, and self-doubt. But it’s also an opportunity to take control of my finances and create a lifestyle that I’ve always dreamed of.

From Freelancer to CEO

I’m Kara Perez, the founder and CEO of Bravely, a company dedicated to empowering women to take charge of their financial lives. My journey began last March, when I was working as a freelancer and part-time caterer, earning a modest income of $2,700 per month. Despite my best efforts, I felt anxious about my financial future and the limitations of my current lifestyle.

Inspired by Female Entrepreneurs

During that time, I devoured stories of successful female entrepreneurs, mesmerized by their determination and perseverance. However, I noticed a significant gap in their narratives – how did they fund their business ventures? What were the hard numbers behind their success? These questions sparked the idea for Bravely, a platform where women could share their experiences, learn from each other, and access practical tools to manage their finances.

Bootstrapping My Business

I didn’t have the luxury of quitting my job or relying on investors to fund my venture. I used the proceeds from selling my personal finance blog to cover the initial startup costs of $550, which included registering my LLC and setting up a website. I also saved an additional $1,500 to cover initial expenses. By leveraging my existing resources and being frugal, I was able to keep my startup costs low.

Balancing Personal and Business Finances

As a solo entrepreneur, I face a unique challenge – balancing my personal and business finances. I have to prioritize my spending, allocate my income wisely, and make difficult decisions about where to invest my money. Should I contribute to my retirement accounts or build my business cash reserves? It’s a constant struggle, but one that I’m determined to navigate.

The Road Ahead

Starting a business is hard, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. I’m proud to be taking control of my financial life, pursuing my passion, and creating a platform that can empower other women to do the same. It won’t be easy, but I’m willing to put in the effort to make Bravely a success.
