Transforming Your Financial Future: The Great American Credit-Off Winners

Having a solid credit score is crucial in today’s world, whether you’re looking to finance a car or secure an apartment lease. Improving your credit score can be a daunting task, but with the right guidance, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. In partnership with CreditRepair.com, we launched the Great American Credit-Off, a competition where contestants worked to improve their credit scores over an eight-month period.

The Competition: A Journey to Better Credit

Our contestants competed in three categories: largest increase in credit score, biggest improvement in monthly credit utilization rate, and paying off the highest percentage of consumer debt. CreditRepair.com provided all participants with six months of free access to their services, empowering them to take control of their credit.

Meet the Winners

Mallorie, Nashville, TN: Largest Increase in Credit Score

Mallorie’s credit score jumped an impressive 31 points, from 490 to 521. Despite losing her job in June, she managed to stay on top of her rent and bills by taking on side hustles like Instacart and a temp gig working for the election. Mallorie praises CreditRepair.com for their free service, which helped her navigate her credit report during a difficult time.

Aniesha, Hoboken, NJ: Biggest Improvement in Monthly Credit Utilization Rate

Aniesha’s credit utilization rate plummeted from 35% to 9%, thanks to her disciplined approach of setting aside $1,000 a month to tackle her credit cards. She also utilized an app called Digit to save money and drive down debt. Aniesha feels closer to her major money goals, having saved $8,000 during the competition.

Kayla, Brooklyn, NY: Highest Percentage of Consumer Debt Paid Off

Kayla paid off an impressive $600 in debt from her old credit card, achieving a score growth of 180 points. Although her income has been uncertain due to the coronavirus, she’s revisiting her goals and making lifestyle changes to get back on track.

Jennifer, Crofton, MD: Consistency and Progress

Jennifer’s credit score grew by 10 points, from 654 to 664. She paid off $2,500 in debt, about 25% of her total debt, and refinanced her house payment. Although she didn’t quite reach her goal of refinancing her car, she’s proud of her progress.
