Celebrating Solo: How to Make the Most of the Holiday Season
As the holiday season approaches, I’m reminded that it’s possible to create a festive atmosphere, even without family traditions. This year, I’ve perfected my strategy for celebrating alone, and I’m excited to share my tips with you.
Cozying Up at Home
My roommate and I may not celebrate Christmas, but we’ve still decked out our apartment with a tree, lights, ornaments, and a DIY wreath. We’ve also stocked up on fresh flowers, candles, and holiday scents to create a cozy ambiance. As an avid baker, I’ve been indulging in festive treats and seasonal foods from local stores, all while jamming out to Christmas tunes.
Rethinking Gift Giving
Holiday shopping can be overwhelming, especially when finances are tight. This year, I’ve been discussing alternative gift options with my friends. Instead of buying physical gifts, we’re considering charitable donations or DIY presents. Many of us have corporate matches that we haven’t maxed out, so we’re offering those up as gift options. We’re also donating to causes close to our hearts, like the Georgia Senate races.
Virtual Celebrations
Why not plan a virtual event with loved ones? My friends and I are hosting a Secret Santa reveal via Zoom, complete with a cookie baking party. We’ve all purchased the same cookie decorating kit, making it a fun and interactive experience. Virtual hangouts have become a staple in our friend group, and they’re especially important during the holiday season.
Self-Care and Reflection
Lastly, remember to prioritize self-care and reflection during the holiday season. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, but taking time for yourself is crucial. I’m looking forward to relaxing spa baths, curling up with a good book, and re-watching my favorite holiday movies. This year has been tough, and we all need a little extra love and care. Take time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the new one – you deserve it!
