Finding Comfort in Productivity During Uncertain Times
As I navigate the challenges of social distancing, I’m discovering solace in tackling tasks I’ve long put off. With no distractions from the outside world, I’m finally tackling those pesky to-dos that have been weighing on my mind.
Securing My Online Presence
One task that had been lingering was updating my passwords. It’s essential to change them annually to unique and random combinations, but the process can be time-consuming. Password managers like LastPass and 1Password have made it a breeze. With my newfound free time, I’m taking steps to bolster the security of my accounts.
Reconnecting with Loved Ones
I’ve also taken the opportunity to reach out to old friends and acquaintances. Whether it’s a networking connection or a dear friend, now is the perfect time to reconnect. Hearing a familiar voice can be a comforting reminder that we’re not alone. I recently caught up with an old friend I hadn’t spoken to in 18 months, and it felt amazing to rekindle our connection.
Decluttering My Space
Decluttering my bedroom has been a therapeutic exercise. I started by identifying the least-used items and asking myself two simple questions: Is it taking up prime shelf space? And do I want to bring it with me into the next year? By storing less-used items out of sight, I’ve freed up space for the things that matter most.
Getting Lost in a Good Book
I’m finally reading the book my friends have been raving about – Educated by Tara Westover. If you’re looking for an escape, check out the book you’ve been meaning to read. Many ebooks and audiobooks are available through your local library. Losing myself in a good story has been a welcome distraction.
Organizing My Closet
With the changing seasons, it was time to refresh my wardrobe. I’ve been honest with myself about what items make sense to keep and what can be donated. My rule of thumb is simple: if I haven’t worn it this season, and I don’t see an occasion to wear it soon, it’s time to let it go.
Reassessing My Finances
Many people are facing financial uncertainty due to the pandemic. Now is a smart time to evaluate your budget and plan for the future. If you don’t follow a budget, it’s not too late to start. I’ve taken this opportunity to refresh my financial plan, setting new goals and targets for the next six months.
Achieving Inbox Zero
Finally, I’ve tackled my inbox, achieving the elusive Inbox Zero. By reorganizing my Gmail and focusing on immediate tasks, I’ve found a sense of peace and control. While social distancing has its challenges, focusing on what I can control has helped me stay calm and centered.
By tackling these tasks, I’ve found comfort in the simplicity and structure they bring to my life. And when this period of uncertainty passes, I’ll be grateful to have these tasks behind me.
