A Simple Recipe to Make at Home

The Essential Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces freshly made espresso
  • 1 1/2 ounces freshly made hot chocolate (try our Real Deal Hot Chocolate recipe)
  • 1 1/2 ounces heavy cream

Crafting the Perfect Layer

To create the signature layered effect, follow these steps:

  1. Chill a cocktail shaker in the freezer for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Fill a large heatproof glass with hot tap water and set it aside.
  3. Empty the glass and dry it out.
  4. Pour the shot of espresso into the bottom of the glass.
  5. Slowly pour in the hot chocolate while tilting the glass slightly.
  6. Remove the shaker from the freezer, add the cream, and shake vigorously until frothy (at least 20 times).
  7. Spoon the shaken cream on top of the hot chocolate and serve immediately.
