Slow Cooker Magic
The secret to these tender and crispy hot wings lies in the slow cooker. With just four hours of cooking time, you’ll be rewarded with beautifully tender wings that are ready to be crisped up in the oven.
Ingredients
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick)
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1 (5-ounce) bottle hot sauce
- 3 pounds chicken wings
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
Let the Slow Cooker Do the Work
Melt the butter and whisk it together with the oregano, onion and garlic powders, soy sauce, tomato paste, liquid smoke, and hot sauce in the slow cooker. Add the chicken wings and stir to coat them evenly. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours.
Crisping Up in the Oven
Just before the wings are done, heat the oven to 400°F and arrange the wings in a single layer on two baking sheets. Bake for 30 minutes, or until browned and crispy.
Thickening the Sauce
While the wings are baking, transfer the cooking liquid to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the sugar and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
Serve and Enjoy!
Remove the wings from the oven and toss them with the thickened sauce. Serve hot and enjoy the oohs and aahs from your guests!
