Korean-Style Broccoli Salad: A Flavorful Twist
Preparation is Key
To start, steam 6 cups of broccoli florets until they’re tender but still crisp. You can use a stovetop or electric steamer, or even a large lidded pot with a colander.
While the broccoli is cooking, toast 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium-high heat until they’re golden brown. Let them cool before using.
The Flavorful Dressing
In a large bowl, whisk together the following ingredients until well combined:
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of Korean rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of pure roasted sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon of honey
Add the following ingredients to the bowl and mix well:
- 2 inches of grated fresh ginger
- 4 cloves of thinly sliced garlic
- Half of the toasted sesame seeds
Let the dressing sit at room temperature for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
The Final Touches
Once the dressing has sat for a while, add the steamed broccoli to the bowl and toss until the broccoli is well coated.
Let the salad sit at room temperature for up to 2 hours, tossing occasionally, to allow the flavors to fully develop.
Just before serving, sprinkle the remaining sesame seeds and 1 teaspoon of coarse ground red chili pepper (if using) over the top of the salad.
Serve and Enjoy!
Transfer the salad to a serving dish and pour the remaining dressing over the top.
This Korean-style broccoli salad is perfect for a light and refreshing lunch or as a side dish for your next dinner party. With its unique blend of flavors and textures, it’s sure to be a hit!
