Kitchen Hacks for the Budget-Conscious
When you’re living on a shoestring, every meal counts. As a grad student, I had to get creative with the resources I had available. That’s how I came up with this recipe, born out of necessity in a shared kitchen.

Sometimes, you have to make the most of what you have. This dish may not win any culinary awards, but it’s a tasty and filling solution for when your budget is tight.

Gather Your Ingredients
- 1 package of Ramen Noodles
- 2-3 eggs
- A handful of vegetables of your choice (with onion and garlic if possible)
- Salami or vegetarian salami, cut into small pieces
- A handful of shredded cheese
- Olive oil
From Noodles to Meal
- Start with the Basics: Boil the Ramen Noodles and discard the water and flavor packet.
- Prepare Your Protein: Crack eggs into a bowl and scramble them, setting them aside for later.
- Sauté to Success: In a frying pan, sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add your chosen vegetables and salami, continuing to cook until the veggies are tender.
- Combine and Conquer: Add the drained noodles to the frying pan, pouring the scrambled eggs over the top. Mix everything together until the eggs start to set.
- The Finishing Touch: Add the shredded cheese and stir until the eggs have reached your desired consistency.
Enjoy Your Creation!
Serve with ketchup and hot sauce for an added kick. This recipe may not be gourmet, but it’s a satisfying meal that’ll keep you going when times are tough.
