A Twist on Tradition
Imagine a burger that combines the richness of French cuisine with the comfort of an American classic. This innovative creation skips the ketchup and mustard, instead featuring a decadent Dijon and mayo slather.
Easy yet Elegant
With a difficulty level of easy and a total cooking time of just 30 minutes, this recipe is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a weekend gathering. The active cooking time is a mere 20 minutes, leaving you plenty of time to focus on other aspects of your meal.
The Perfect Ingredients
To create this masterpiece, you’ll need:
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 1/2 pounds ground chicken thigh meat
- 1 medium shallot, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 8 slices thinly sliced Black Forest ham
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 kaiser or French-style hamburger buns or ciabatta sandwich rolls, split and toasted
- 1 cup baby arugula
Bringing it All Together
To begin, preheat your grill to medium-high heat (400°F) or heat a grill pan over medium heat until hot. Meanwhile, mix the Dijon mustard and mayonnaise, setting it aside for later use.
Patty Perfection
Combine the chicken, shallot, salt, and pepper, forming the mixture into 4 patties. Rub each burger with oil and press a deep dimple into the center to ensure even cooking.
Grilling to Perfection
Grill the burgers, turning once halfway through, until they’re cooked all the way through – about 10 minutes total. In the last 3 minutes, top each burger with two slices of ham and a slice of cheese. Cover and let cook until the cheese is melted.
The Finishing Touches
Assemble the burgers by spreading the top bun with some of the reserved mustard mixture and adding a few arugula leaves. The result is a harmonious blend of French flavors and American comfort food.
