Tracking My Spending Habits: A Journey to Financial Awareness
As I reflected on my recent purchases, I realized that understanding my spending habits is crucial to making better financial decisions. By examining my bank statements and receipts, I hoped to identify areas where I could improve my spending habits and make more intentional choices.
The Importance of Self-Awareness
Regularly reviewing my expenses has helped me become more mindful of my spending habits. I’ve started asking myself questions before making a purchase, doing more research, and finding ways to cut back on unnecessary expenses. This increased awareness has led to significant progress, and I’m excited to share my wins and regrets from July.
Regrets: Where I Went Wrong
This month, I had two purchases that I regretted. While they were enjoyable at the time, they didn’t align with my financial goals.
- Celebratory Sushi Dinner: When I received a job offer, I celebrated with a sushi dinner that cost $31.50. Although it was a special occasion, the expense was not budgeted, and I felt guilty afterward.
- Movie Night Cocktail: I splurged on a $10.75 cocktail at the movies, which was unnecessary and left me wondering why I made such a purchase.
Total wasted: $42.25
Wins: Where I Got It Right
On the other hand, I’m proud of the intentional purchases I made this month.
- A Night Out at the Movies: I saw The Big Sick in theaters, which cost $10.00. It was a great way to spend an evening, and I don’t regret the expense.
- Coffee and Compassion: When a friend was hospitalized, I visited her with two Starbucks coffee orders totaling $6.25. It was a small act of kindness that brightened both our days.
- Simple Skincare: I invested in Simple’s Moisturizing Face Wash for $6.99, which has become a valuable addition to my skincare routine.
Total spent: $23.24
By tracking my spending habits, I’ve become more aware of my financial choices and have made progress in reducing unnecessary expenses. While I still have room for improvement, I’m excited to continue this journey towards financial awareness.
